Ingredients | 1 medium head of green cabage (approx 2.5 lbs) 2 Tbs oil or butter 2 Tbs molasses 1 lb ground beef or pork 1/2 cup dry white rice (OPTIONAL) 1 onion, chopped 2 cloves of minced garlic 1 cup heavy cream 3 Tbs breadcrumbs 4 Tbs water 2 Tbs soy sauce 1 Tbs worcestershire sauce salt and pepper to taste |
Directions | Coarsely chop the cabbage, season it with salt and pepper, and fry it lightly in butter (approx 5-10 min). Add the molasses and brown over medium heat in a frying pan until caramelized. Do this on low head, cooking until all the liquid has evaporated, approx 15 min. Mix all remaining ingredients in a bowl. Add in half of the cooked cabbage. Put the mixture in a 10 inch baking dish, and top with the second half of the cabbage. Bake in the oven at 350 degrees for 45 minutes, until cabbage is browned and crunchy at the edges. Allow to rest for 10 minutes before serving. Cream Sauce ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Melt 2 Tbs butter in a small saucepan Add 2 Tbs flour into the melted butter and mix till starting to brown Add 2 cups of broth (beef or chicken) and 1 cup heavy cream. Bring to a boil. Stir in 1 Tbs soy sauce and season with salt and peppe Simmer for 10 minutes or until sauce thickens. Whisk it continuously so it doesn't burn. |
Notes | The cream sauce is a tasty addition and great if you pair this with mashed potatoes (recommended). Can also serve with lingonberry preserves, or cranberry sauce. |
